Retail conglomerate Majid Al Futtaim has announced an AED 5bn ($1.3bn) transformation of Mall of the Emirates into a next-generation lifestyle destination. It plans to transform the shopping mall into an experience-led, multi-sensory destination for retail, dining and culture. The company has already allocated AED 1.1bn ($300mn) to new additions such as a luxury wellness club, an immersive cultural hub, a new dining precinct, and cutting-edge entertainment concepts. By late 2026, Mall of the Emirates will include four new entertainment offerings, as well as the world’s most advanced IMAX experience at Vox Cinemas. Among these new experiences is the New Covent Garden cultural hub with a 600-seat theatre, set to open this year. Also part of the project is the addition of 20,000m2 of new retail space. Sustainability is at the core of the transformation, with Majid Al Futtaim set to utilise energy-efficient technologies, smart systems and eco-conscious design.
