The conversion of the current Leiner flagship on Vienna's Mariahilfer Strasse into a department store à la Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe) will take a year longer than originally planned. The opening is now planned for autumn 2024. The demolition of the old house is to begin at the beginning of March 2021, with only the historical facade remaining. The new house in Vienna will not be called KaDeWe, the final name should be announced at the beginning of next year. The new complex will include an eight-storey department store with 20,000 m2 of retail space including a park on the roof and a hotel. The catering area on the eighth floor with a view of Vienna's city centre will be a magnet. The new department store should appeal in particular to the wealthy neighbour’s districts. The number of parking spaces for cars is to be reduced significantly, with parking spaces for bicycles and cargo bikes being created. The majority of customers should come by public transport anyway.
